Sounds like he had a great run. I wonder if they're taking applications for the vacancy?

Rest Peacefully, Hal.
I am somewhat amazed I have never even heard this fellas name referenced in all the material I have ever read/listened to regarding The Grateful Dead, but it is good to know they had a guy like this in their corner.

Thanks BD. Hal sure had my dream job. I do understand he also took part in some of the festivities, although, understandably, not much of it is documented.

How unfortunate that, due to obvious confidentiality matters, we never heard from him. I would have loved to have read his memoirs....his take on this whole thing...From the early 70's to the end, a different perspective...Imagine, he was in on most major decisions!

Rest In Peace Good Counsel, Sir Czar Esquire.

Hal Kant, Harvard Law School '58 grew up in the Bronx, graduated from City College of New York, got a Ph.D in psychology at Penn State, ''became chief psychologist in the Army'' and finally got his law degree from Harvard..then and only then The Consigliere to the Grateful Dead.

RIP Hal. I had no idea who he was until reading that article but his influence cannot be overlooked.

Yeh he is there, although barely a line or two. Remember the Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia story? I think it's in McNally's book how he had to convince Garcia to deal with it.

But just imagine. The role of a corporate general counsel is to manage all legal aspects of the organization's affairs. You may not do all the legal work yourself but when the work is farmed out, you are still responsible to instruct, monitor outside lawyers, and know how and what your client/organization wants done. Often your client does not really know what it wants but has a "vision"....and I bet the Dead had "vision". Just remember how revolutionary they were in their practises. Record label, Egypt, in house ticket sales on and on. And that's just what got actually implemented...Poor Hal, I can just imagine him driving home some nights thinking..What have I got myself into.

Oh NC, if you are reading this, Hal was a registered Republican.
